As a veteran 911 dispatcher, Amanda has more than a decade of experience helping others in need. Now, she is on the front lines helping in another way.
After witnessing a close friend struggle with infertility, Amanda knew that she wanted to become a Surrogate. Her first thought was to become a surrogate for her friend, but the timing was not right.
However, her desire to help a family have a baby remained strong.
She was soon matched with a couple from China.
“When I spoke with my intended parents they were very eager and ready to get started, the feeling was mutual,” she said.
Her IP’s have a son, an only child right now, and Amanda got to speak with him as well.
“He told me he has always wanted to have a little sister and thanked me, many times, for helping their family.”
Amanda is a parent of two and feels this is the journey she is meant to be on.
“My children mean everything to me,” she said.
“That is what brought me to surrogacy because I can’t imagine my life without them.”
Amanda brought her teenage daughter along with her for the transfer. She was excited to be by her mom’s side and even more excited, and a bit nervous, for her first airplane fight!
Although Amanda doesn’t really believe in all the transfer day superstitions, she did design a special transfer day shirt with her Intended Parents in mind.
“The message on my shirt is written in Chinese and it says: Lucky Transfer Shirt.”
Amanda says she feels she was meant to be a surrogate and has some advice for those thinking about starting a journey.
“If you have it in your heart be a part of changing someone’s life, a family’s life; then surrogacy is for you.”
