“There is a feeling when you first hold your child that is indescribable. Your heart actually aches because it feels so full. I wanted someone else to feel that kind of powerful love.”
Lisa delivered her first surrogate pregnancy in August 2014, and her enthusiasm is palpable. When the journey first started she was nervous, especially knowing that there was one shot for these parents.
Only one embryo remained and the pressure of this being the last chance of a biological child for this wonderful couple was un-nerving, however she was up for the challenge and hopeful.
Christmas Eve 2013 brought them all the greatest of gifs; a positive pregnancy test! The single embryo transfer worked, and they were expecting!
Throughout the pregnancy, Lisa and this little boy’s mother developed a strong bond, talking every day via email. Both parents came to her home town for long weekend sand were able to bond with both Lisa and the little boy they had so longed for.
The pregnancy was normal, with typical ups and downs. Even as surrogates, there are hard days of tears and misery with nausea and vomiting day after day. Lisa focused on why she was sick, what sacrifices the parents have made, and that it was all – absolutely – worth it to bring this little boy home to his parents.
Toward the end of pregnancy, Lisa delighted in the anxious anticipation of the mother-to-be. Watching her prepare for her son, just as Lisa had prepared for her own child five years prior, brought back fond memories and happiness that she was helping give such an amazing gif of both the journey and the child to his parents.
Through the waiting and sharing, the friendship continued to blossom and grow as they all eagerly awaited this much loved boys’ arrival.
Baby Rhys entered the world at a whopping 10 pounds, 9 ounces, and 100% perfect. Lisa’s partner, and biggest support throughout the journey, was there to coach her and photograph the delivery, capturing the moments of awe and love as the new parents met their son. For Lisa, it was the most beautiful experience she has ever witnessed.
“It’s (surrogacy) not for the faint of heart, but it is 100% worth it in every way possible”, Lisa explained. “I cannot express my gratitude to my FIP’s for entrusting me with their precious miracle for 40 weeks”.
Lisa looks forward to continuing to watch Baby Rhys grow, now on the outside of her womb at home with his family. Their friendship has continued and they consider themselves good friends, much beyond the surrogate/intended parent relationship.
Surrogacy has forever changed not only the life of the couple she helped, but hers as well. The parents are smitten with little Rhys, as is “Auntie” Lisa.
